The period for enrollment in birth registrations has been extended

 Section 14 of the Registration Act, 1969 and Rule 10 of the Births and Deaths Registration Rules, 1999 stipulate that names must be registered within 15 years of birth. Accordingly, the Registrar General of India granted leave to amend Section 14 Rule 10 of the Births and Death Registration Act, 1969 by extending the period of enrollment in the Birth Register for a period of five years to avoid any inconvenience to the public after the expiry of the period on 31.12.2014. Accordingly, the Government of Kerala had issued the Births and Deaths Registration (Amendment) Rules, 2015 as per Notification 2, extending the period for enrollment in the Birth Register to five years. Accordingly, permission was given to add names in birth registrations till 22.06.2020.

After the expiry of the above period, all the local registrars in Kerala have been receiving numerous applications for enrollment in the Birth Register, including for study purposes and passport matters. Permission has been granted to the Chief Registrar of Births and Deaths to issue an order extending the period from one year to Rs. Permission was granted as per Government Notice (4).

In this case, all the registrars in Kerala have been given permission to add the child's name in the birth register for a period of one year from 23.06.2020 i.e. 22.06.2021 in the registrations before 23.06.2015.
